כללים להוספת ing לפועל:
כאשר הפועל מסתיים בעיצור תנועה והעיצור שונה מ w, x, y
מכפילים את העיצור האחרון ומוסיפים ing
run - running , get - getting
fix - fixing , say - saying , row - rowing

אם הפועל מסתיים ב ie יש להפוך את ה ie ל y ולהוסיף ing
lie - lying , tie - tying

אם הפועל מסתיים בעיצור + e , יש להוריד את ה e ולהוסיף ing
come - coming, make - making

אם הפועל מסתיים בתנועה + y, או i , או o או ee נוסיף ing
go - going, fly - flying , ski - skiing, pay - paying

פעלים שאינם מקבלים בדרך כלל ing
